Julian Reyes and Kayla Rossi’s Baltimore Production Apartment (The Lucie)
Overview
Julian Reyes and Kayla Rossi’s Baltimore production apartment was a furnished corporate one-bedroom at The Lucie. Resonance Films leased it after the couple’s first Baltimore trip and retained it while they traveled back and forth from Los Angeles during the documentary’s four-to-five-month filming period.
The apartment served as a private place for Julian to recover between shoots, a practical workroom for footage management and early editing, and a stable Baltimore address that did not intrude on the Lee family’s home. It was a substantial production cost and remained set up between trips.
Layout
The apartment followed The Lucie’s A10 plan: one bedroom, one bathroom, and approximately 715 square feet. The entry opened near the bathroom and a short utility zone with the stacked washer and dryer. The kitchen ran along one side of the open dining and living area. The bedroom occupied the quieter exterior end of the unit, separated from the entry and most work activity.
The published A10 plan is approximate, so exact wall lengths, window orientation, and unit-specific finishes are not fixed canon. The overall relationship among the rooms is stable: compact entry and service spaces, open kitchen and living area, and a separate bedroom.
Furnishings and Work Setup
The corporate package was comfortable and generic: a neutral sofa, small dining table, lamps, ordinary framed art, a complete bed, basic kitchenware, towels, and the other items needed for a medium-term stay. Kayla added labeled equipment cases, chargers, production paperwork, medication storage, and groceries that Julian could tolerate during nausea or migraine periods.
The dining table doubled as Kayla’s logistics desk. Julian’s edit setup occupied a controlled corner of the living area, with his laptop, external storage, headphones, card readers, and backup drives kept in consistent positions. Adjustable lamps and screen settings reduced glare. Blackout curtains and the bedroom door gave him a darker recovery space when migraines, seizures, or cyclic vomiting made the open room unusable.
Camera bodies and media were secured when the couple left for Los Angeles. The apartment was never used as a public office, and documentary subjects did not meet there as a matter of routine.
Daily Use
On filming mornings, Kayla checked the Lee family’s messages before the couple loaded only the equipment required for that day. If Minjae’s health forced a cancellation, they could remain in the apartment without losing a hotel reservation or rebuilding their workspace elsewhere. On return, footage was copied and backed up before cards were cleared for reuse.
The kitchen and in-unit washer-dryer mattered during Julian’s health episodes. Kayla could prepare simple food, wash clothing and linens, and keep production moving without leaving him alone for long periods. During the CVS episode when Minjae noticed Julian’s absence, Kayla received Minseo’s message in this apartment while staying beside him.
Chronology
- Early fall 2036: Minjae and Minh’s wedding and the response to it lead toward the documentary project.
- First Baltimore filming trip: Julian and Kayla stay for roughly one week at the Residence Inn Baltimore at The Johns Hopkins Medical Campus. Joon-Ho authorizes one trial filming visit before the family agrees to continue.
- After the first trip: Kayla arranges the furnished A10 corporate apartment at The Lucie.
- Later filming blocks: The couple returns to this apartment between visits to the Lee home. Resonance Films retains the lease while they make interim trips back to Los Angeles.
- Across four to five months: Julian reviews and assembles footage in Baltimore and Los Angeles while filming remains active.
- After the final shoots: Editing continues, but the Baltimore apartment is released after production packout rather than becoming a permanent residence.
Relationship to Julian and Kayla
The apartment placed their domestic and professional partnership under sustained pressure. Kayla maintained the lease, travel, household supplies, production calendar, and equipment movement. Julian worked there when he had capacity and stopped when his symptoms made continued work unsafe. Their shared routines made the space functional; they did not remove the exhaustion of repeated travel or the company’s limited staffing.
Continuity Notes
The A10 designation, one-bedroom/one-bath configuration, and approximate 715-square-foot size come from The Lucie’s 2026 floor-plan materials. The furnished package, retained lease, internal work setup, blackout curtains, service-elevator access, and 2036 availability are story decisions. The unit number is intentionally unstated.
